Mia Johnson is a TRiO North High Alum from class of 2004.  She has been on an amazing journey since then.  During her high school years Mia was well known; especially for her talents in playing basketball.   She played a big part in bring North High girls to the state championship in 2003.  Besides basketball she also played tennis and was apart of National Honor Society. 

Mia became involved with St. Olaf College TRiO Educational Talent Search (ETS) program through George Mountin the high school counselor.  She felt by being a part of ETS program, “it was a win-win situation” says, Mia.  ETS helped her focus on her academics as well as helping her prepared for the standardized test.  Most importantly, ETS was able to give her the visions of being able to connect the dots between high and post-secondary in which it motivated her to do even better in school.

Mia received a full basketball scholarship to Michigan State University.  You can easily Google “Mia Johnson” and find all her basketball achievements.  She made it worth the scholarship she earned.  She graduated from Michigan State University in Communication and minored in Sociology.  She continued to play basketball overseas in Leizig, Germany.  She recently return not too long ago and is currently working as an Assistant Coach for Nebraska-Kearney Women’s Basketball.  Mia is looking for to starting grad school summer 2011.

She is glad that Educational Talent Search helped her realized her full potential aside from basketball skills.  She understands the importance of going to college.
