Distinguished Russian Documentary Filmmakers to visit, with film screenings

We are honored to present two distinguished guests and prominent leaders in the Russian Documentary Film world - Sergey Miroshnichenko and Maria Miro. Sergey Miroshnichenko - Honored Artist of Russia, is an Emmy award - winning documentary film director and professor at the All Russian State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow.
Sergei Miroshnichenko heads his own documentary film studio, "Island Studio", and has a very distinguished career as a documentary film maker and as a producer. One of the leading documentarists of Russia, Miroshnichenko was included in the Glasnost Film Festival of the 1980's which brought up and coming documentary film makers of the USSR to the United States. His film, And the Past Seems But a Dream was featured in that festival. Miroshnichenko was chosen by Michael Apted to film the 7-up Series in Russia. In that capacity, Sergei has served as the director for Age 7 in the USSR, Age 14: Born in the USSR and the recent Age 21: Born in the USSR. He won an Emmy award for Age 14: Born in the USSR. Our screening of Age 21: Born in the USSR will be an area premier for this film. In addition, on Monday night we will be screening two recent films by Miroshnichenko on the late Aleksander Solzhenitsyn.
Maria Miro is a young talented director. Her movie Coal Dust got Young Talent Competition award for an extraordinary documentary film talent and was honorary mentioned by The International Jury last year in Leipzig festival.

Monday night. Oct. 27 (Coal Dust, Alexander Solzhenitsyn: A Life Without Lies, and The Last Stretch of the River) at 7 PM in Regents 210;
Tuesday night Oct. 28 (Iron Man, Age 21: Born in the USSR, Part I) at 7 PM in Regents 410; and
Wednesday night Oct. 29 (Aget 21: Born in the USSR: area premiere) at 7:30 in Regents 410.
