The GIS User Group at St. Olaf College is composed of faculty and staff members who are interested in the use and support of GIS (Geographical Information System) for research and teaching at the College. The group meets once per month during the academic year to share teaching and research ideas, discuss questions of GIS theory and methodology, and to plan GIS support strategies within the College community.
We welcome input and participation from the student body as well as members of the surrounding community who are interested in the issues surrounding GIS use.
We have created a Moodle presence for the GIS User
Group as an alternative way to collect information, continue discussions
and questions in online forumns, and where all group members may
contribute teaching and research ideas. We will try using both this
website and the Moodle presence to learn which is more useful to
the group.
You can access the Moodle site through moodle.stolaf.edu.
Log in with your standard St. Olaf username/password, and then select
"All courses..." from the "My Courses" box at
the bottom of the left column. The GIS User Group is listed under
the Miscellaneous course group. You can then self-enroll in the
GIS User Group "course" to get access to the forums and
other content.
Introducing the St. Olaf College
GIS User Group!
We are launching the new St. Olaf College GIS User Group
in February 2006 in response to faculty and staff interest
in the teaching and research possibilities inherent
in GIS. This site will maintain links to the group's
meeting schedule in addition to resources that are developed
by members of the St. Olaf College GIS community.
Third meeting: Noon - 1 PM, Friday Apr. 7, 2006 in BC222 (note room change).
Please contact Professor Todd Nichol if you would like to receive email notices of any last-minute changes to the meeting schedule.
