Butterfly Milkweed

Scientific Name:
Asclepius tuberosa

Other Common Names: Butterfly weed, pleuristy root

Interesting Facts: As its name suggests, the flowers of Butterfly Milkweed attract many butterfly species, most notably the monarch. Unlike other plants in the Milkweed family, its sap is colorless instead of milky colored. Historically, its roots were used by Native Americans and pioneers to treat respiratory problems, and other parts of the plant have been used as analgesics.
