George CunninghamCareer/Education: George Cunningham was a nursing major at St. Olaf as well as a junior counselor in his residence hall, a recreational athlete and a world traveler. He passed his nursing licensure examination and worked as an RN on a neuroscience unit at the University of Minnesota Medical Center before joining the St. Olaf Admissions staff.

"A student who wants to experience the world will thrive here. A St. Olaf transcript can include a full spectrum of interests, from microbiology to Christian and Islamic ethics, to Japanese and canoeing -- all in one semester. Acquiring well-rounded skills is only the beginning. With its global study opportunities, endless activities and spiritual mindfulness, St. Olaf has a vibrant energy unlike anywhere else."

Being an admissions counselor is “a dream job” because of the personal contact with prospective students and the chance to sell something he truly believes in. St. Olaf gave George the opportunity to study abroad twice during Interim -- first in Japan and China and then in Florence, Italy. “I experienced the richness of many cultures, past and present,” he says. “This has shaped my awareness of the world around me and has given me great perspective on my background as well.”

Personal: Describing himself as a corn-fed Cornhusker from Lincoln, Nebraska, George comes from a family of nine children and was the third of four to attend St. Olaf. He loves the Twin Cities arts scene, running and just about any outdoors activity, especially camping.
