| Rebecca Schmidt Taibl '70, St. Paul, MN |
Changes and challenges characterized Rebecca's years at St. Olaf. Entering as a pre-med student, she changed her major to art and art history after taking classes from professors Arch Leean, John Maakestad, and Arnold Flaten. She worked with other female students and the administration to substantially improve women's hours from lights-out at 11 p.m. to key cards and no limited hours. As a result, Rebecca was offered the position of admissions counselor after graduation. She was the first woman to hold that job. Today, Rebecca is a project manager for TNS Sorensen, a marketing research firm. She also spends as much time as possible with her family, which includes her husband, Rev. Glenn R. Taibl, a daughter, Erika Taibl '98, son-in-law, and granddaughter. Working as a class fund agent, serving as the auction chair for the Black & Gold Gala, and regularly dispensing information about St. Olaf to prospective students ("once in admissions, always in admissions") keep Rebecca connected to St. Olaf. As a board member, she hopes to encourage alumni support of St. Olaf and help alumni connect with each other. |
