Peterson, entering his fifth season in 2009, was a 1979 graduate of St. Olaf, where he was a three-time golf letterwinner and team MVP. He was the MIAC conference runner up in 1977, 1978 and 1979 as he captained the Oles to a conference championship. He won the NAIA District 13 Championship and was a national qualifier.

Peterson played professionally from 1986-1990 on the Space Coast and North Florida PGA Winter Tours as well as the Carolina and Dakota Mini-Tours. He had four victories in PGA section competition in Minnesota and Northeastern New York.

Peterson has been head coach at Greylock High School (Mass.), Belle Plaine H.S. (Minn.) and an assistant with Williams College (Mass.) and Univ. of Minnesota women's team, where he was the designated swing coach.

Peterson currently lives in Northfield with his wife Robyn and son Anders where he is a private investor and PGA professional.
