Volleyball drops MIAC match to Gusties

ST. PETER, Minn. - Jennifer Thelemann had 16 kills to lead Gustavus Adolphus College to a four-game (30-17, 25-30, 30-26, 30-27) volleyball win over St. Olaf on Wednesday night.

Alyssa Williams had a match-best 22 digs and Kelly Prunty added 42 set assists and six kills to lead the Oles (5-5, 0-2 MIAC).

Gustavus stormed to a 19-6 lead and won game one handily, but the match wasn't that easy.

The Oles took game two and had a 24-21 lead in game three before the Gusties (9-2, 2-0 MIAC) won the next five points and held on.

In game four, St. Olaf charged back from a 13-7 deficit and led 21-17. Gustavus then went on a 10-2, helped by a kill and four serves from Thelemann, run to seal the win.

Kim Smisek had a team-high 15 kills for St. Olaf in the loss. The Oles play at the College of St. Catherine on Saturday at 3 p.m.
