Smisek's 27 kills lead Oles past No. 23 Bethel

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Kim Smisek had a career-high 27 kills to lead the St. Olaf volleyball team to a 23-30, 30-28, 30-26 and 30-24 win over No. 23 Bethel on Wednesday night.

The Oles (11-9, 3-5 MIAC) have won five of their last six and are a half game behind Gustavus and Hamline for the sixth and final MIAC Playoff berth.

St. Olaf has three matches left - Macalester (0-7 MIAC) on Saturday, at Hamline (3-4 MIAC) on Oct. 23 and Carleton (5-2 MIAC) on Oct. 27.

Jane Meyer added 18 and Jess Levin 12 kills for St. Olaf in the win. Smisek, the MIAC's reigning Hitter of the Week, added a team-best 16 digs.

Smisek's 20-plus kill effort was her seventh of the year and fifth in the last seven outings. She has had at least 14 kills in 13 straight matches.

The Royals (21-5, 6-2 MIAC) were led by Liz Glesne's 16 kills.
