Tommies over women's basketball 72-59

The University of St. Thomas women's basketball team used a 17-2 run in the final five minutes in a 72-59 win over St. Olaf Saturday afternoon in Northfield, Minn.

Amy Kittelson had 25 points, going 11-of-16 from the field, and added seven rebounds to lead the Tommies (5-5, 3-3 MIAC).

Molly Simon's (Sr., Hudson, Wis.) 21 points led St. Olaf. The Oles have lost six in a row.

St. Olaf trailed by just five at the break and cut the St. Thomas lead to 51-49 win just over eight minutes remaining. The Tommies then went on a 17-2 run over the next five minutes to secure the win.

Christina Sampson (So., North Branch, Minn.) added 14 and Holly Grimsrud (So., Zumbrota, Minn.) 11 points for the Oles.

Molly Miller added 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Toms.

St. Olaf shot just 36.4 percent from the field, while St. Thomas was 47.5 percent for the game and 51.7 percent in the second half.

St. Olaf plays at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The game can be heard on 920 AM, KDHL.
