Levin leads Oles past Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Jess Levin had a career-high 24 kills to lead St. Olaf to a five-set volleyball win (21-25, 28-26, 25-23, 24-26, 16-14) over Cornell College and a team-best nine kills in a sweep of the University of Dubuque (25-20, 25-11, 25-10) on Friday in the first two rounds of the IIAC-MIAC Border Battle.
Levin hit .489 and made just five errors in 39 attempts in the victory over Cornell and .562 against Dubuque.
St. Olaf (15-9, 3-3 MIAC), which has won three straight, has played in seven five-set matches in their last nine outings.
Jane Meyer added 14 kills in the first win, while Cornell was paced by Kristin Paczosa and Laura Dudgeon, who each had 15 kills.
Kelly Prunty had 52 and 28 set assists in the victories.
The Oles will finish the two-day tournament tomorrow with matches against Buena Vista University and Luther College. St. Olaf returns to MIAC play on Wednesday at Augsburg College.
