Volleyball tipped by Auggies in fifth set

MINNEAPOLIS - Augsburg College rallied to score the final four points in the deciding set to defeat the St. Olaf volleyball team 18-25, 27-25, 25-15, 13-25 and 15-12 on Wednesday night.
Kim Smisek had 20 kills to lead the Oles (17-10, 3-4 MIAC).
Katie Christensen and Breann Woelfel had 12 kills each to lead the Auggies (14-11, 2-5 MIAC) who snapped a 31-match losing streak to St. Olaf, dating to Sept. 25, 1989.
With the loss, the Oles snap a five-game winning streak and are now 4-7 in five-set and 1-6 in road matches (excluding neutral site).
St. Olaf cruised to a 25-18 win in the first set and had set point in the second, at 24-23, but the Auggies took scored four of the next five to win 27-25.
After a 25-15 loss in the third set, the Oles hit .357 to force a finale with a 25-13 fourth set win.
Jess Levin and Jane Meyer added 11 kills each and Kelly Prunty had 44 set assists, to eclipse 1,000 for the season, in the loss for the Oles.
