Oles win first set, but No. 6 St. Thomas prevails

ST. PAUL, Minn. - ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Olaf volleyball team took the first set, but sixth-ranked St. Thomas won the next three in a MIAC Playoffs semifinal win over the Oles on Thursday night at Schoenecker Arena.
St. Olaf (21-12) won the thrilling first set 27-25 before the Tommies (26-2) won the next three 25-18, 25-17 and 25-8.
Katie McCaffrey and Carlie Waibel had 12 kills each to pace the Tommies.
Kim Smisek's 13 led St. Olaf, which was limited to seven kills (-.054) in the third game and four (-.333) in the fourth.
St. Thomas will host Gustavus Adolphus College (25-3), which swept Saint Mary's University (19-13) in Thursday's other semifinal game, on Saturday in the championship game.
The Oles' 20-win season is their first since 2002.
