Women's basketball can't hang on, fall to Gustavus

After trailing by 11 at halftime the St. Olaf women's basketball team tied the game with eight minutes left, but could not stop a 24-6 Gustavus run to finish the game as they lost 78-62 Wednesday night in Skoglund Center.

Kristin Kachelmyer had 14 first half points, capitalizing on 12 St. Olaf turnovers as she led Gustavus to their halftime advantage.

Kachelmyer had 24 points and teammate Bri Monahan led all scorers with 26 to lead the Gusties.

Kristy Larson (Sr., St. Ansgar, Iowa) had 16 points, ten in the second half, and shot 6-for-8 from the field making 4-of-4 freethrows leading St. Olaf in Scoring. Molly Simon (Sr., Hudson, Wis.) finished with 14 points and four assists.

St. Olaf had another good shooting night, making 47 percent from the field, however, they committed 24 turnovers, 12 in each half.

The Oles take on nationally ranked Carleton College, who they lost to 53-52 in the last meeting, Saturday afternoon starting at 1 p.m.
