Oles top Tommies in five to advance to MIAC final

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Kim Smisek had 26 kills as the 21st-ranked St. Olaf volleyball team overcame a 14-11 deficit to defeat ninth-ranked St. Thomas 16-14 in the deciding fifth set in the semifinal round of the MIAC volleyball playoffs on Thursday night at the Gangelhoff Center.
Alyssa Williams added 34 digs for the Oles, who won for the 19th time in the team's last 20 matches.
St. Olaf (27-3) will play at the College of Saint Benedict, which defeated Concordia College-Moorhead in four sets, on Saturday in the tournament championship.
The win was the first for St. Olaf against St. Thomas since 2003, including a Sept. 19 loss to UST at home, spanning eight matches.
St. Thomas was led by Jill Osborne's 17 kills, Alesha Nelson's 15 and a 13-kill, 25-dig night from Kyley Crotty.
