UW-Eau Claire defeats Oles in first round of NCAA's

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The 21st-ranked St. Olaf College volleyball team's season came to an end on Thursday night as 16th-ranked UW-Eau Claire defeated the Oles in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship, 26-24, 25-22 and 25-18.
Kim Smisek had a team-high 15 kills for the Oles while Emily Zupon had 13 for the Blugolds (31-7).
UW-Eau Claire used a 6-0 run in the first set to break a 9-9 tie and held on for the 26-24 victory.
St. Olaf erased a 10-6 Blugold lead to tie the second set at 13-13. UW-Eau Claire then scored the next five points on the way to the 25-22 victory.
The NCAA appearance was the ninth for St. Olaf (27-5), which is now 5-4 in first round games.
UW-Eau Claire will play the winner of second-ranked UW-Oshkosh, the top seed in the region, and St. Norbert College.
The Oles' win percentage (.844) ranks fourth in school history while their 27 wins rank eighth.
