Women's soccer opens season with loss at UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - UW-Eau Claire scored twice in a four-minute stretch of the second half on the way to a 2-0 non-conference women's soccer win over St. Olaf on Wednesday in the season opener for each school.

After a scoreless first half, the host Blugolds (1-0, 0-0 WIAC) got goals from Lisa Marco at 54:11 and Rachel Nerison at 57:55.

St. Olaf (0-1-0, 0-0-0 MIAC) was edged 14-8 in shots and had four on goal in the loss.

The Oles' Elizabeth Huggins made nine saves in net while the Blugolds' Joan Mattheisen collected four in the win.

The Oles play at Luther College next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
