ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The 18th-ranked St. Olaf volleyball team played a pair of five-set matches on Saturday in the final two rounds of the Washington University/Asics National Invitational, as the Oles defeated No. 10 Carthage before falling to No. 9 Ohio Northern University.

St. Olaf rallied for the five-set win behind a career-best 18 kills from Katie Wolfram. Kim Smisek added 16 and Ari Carlson 14 as the Oles snapped a two-match losing streak.

After the decisive set was tied 13-13, Smisek finished the match with a kill and a block.

Lauren Dembkowski had 15 kills to pace Carthage.

The Oles' Kelly Prunty had 56 set assists in the victory.

Alex Christian had 25 kills while hitting .357 as ONU outlasted St. Olaf in five.

Smisek had a season-best 29 kills, which was two off her career-high, and hit .369 in the loss. Carlson and Wolfram chipped in 11 and 10 kills while Kristin Boyum had 23 digs.

The Oles trailed most of the final set and were within one, at 13-12, before ONU scored the final two points.

Kelly Smerekanich had 62 set assists for ONU while Prunty had 54 for the Oles.

The five-set match was the third of the weekend for St. Olaf and the second for ONU.

Smisek was named to the all-tournament team with Marilee Fisher (Wash U), Kelly Pang (Wash U), Meghan Byrne (Wash U), Katie Sumner (Wittenberg), Christine Simpson (Wittenberg), Izzy Shandlin (Carthage) and Ellen Grenert (ONU).
