WINONA, Minn. - The 15th-ranked St. Olaf volleyball team defeated MIAC foe Saint Mary's University in four sets (25-17, 19-25, 25-19, 25-16) behind Kim Smisek's 17 kills on Wednesday night.

Katie Wolfram added 12 kills, while Kristin Boyum and Kirstee Rotty had 19 and 17 digs for the Oles (19-4, 6-1 MIAC).

Jessica Mate had 15 kills to lead SMU.

The Oles led throughout the decisive fourth set. SMU got within 10-8, but Smisek had three kills as a part of an 8-2 run that all but sealed the victory.

St. Olaf raced to a 6-1 lead in the second set, but the host Cardinals rallied to tie at 15-15 and scored the last five points to take the set 25-19.

St. Olaf used a 15-6 run midway through the first set on the way to the 25-17 win.

The Oles, who dropped three spots in the latest AVCA poll after Friday's loss at Bethel, have a challenging weekend ahead at the Simpson College Tournament. The Oles play No. 8 UW-Whitewater and host Simpson on Friday and Illinois Wesleyan and Wartburg College on Saturday.
