Volleyball picks up two more victories to close, win Simpson Tourney

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Kim Smisek had 15 and 19 kills to earn tournament most valuable player honors, as the 15th-ranked St. Olaf volleyball team defeated Illinois Wesleyan University and Wartburg College on Saturday in straight sets to finish the Simpson Invitational 4-0.

Smisek his .303 with her 15 kills while Melissa Burch hit .450 with her 10 kills as the Oles coasted to the three-set win.
The Oles trailed briefly in the second set, but overcame a 18-16 deficit with an 8-2 run to seal the set.
St. Olaf closed the match on a 16-5 rally after the set was tied at 9-9.
Illinois Wesleyan was led by Sarah Blum's 12 digs.

Smisek had 19 kills -- while hitting .500 -- and 10 digs and Katie Wolfram had 10 kills to lead the Oles, who never trailed, to the straight set victory.
Wartburg was led by Britlyn Sieck's seven kills.
Kelly Prunty added 46 set assists for the Oles. Prunty, an all-tournament selection, averaged 12.46 assists/set in the event. Smisek led the tournament in kills (5.0/set) while the Oles' Ari Carlson led the tournament in blocks (1.15/set) and was third in hitting percentage (.365).
St. Olaf returns to conference play on Friday and Saturday with home matches against Saint Ben's and Concordia.
