11th-ranked volleyball Oles get past Pipers in three

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Kim Smisek's 14 kills and Kristin Boyum's 14 digs helped 11th-ranked St. Olaf get past host Hamline University in three sets -- 25-17, 25-21 and 25-23 -- in a MIAC volleyball match on Wednesday night.

The win was the Oles' ninth in a row and 21st in the team's last 22.

Melissa Burch added 11 kills and Ari Carlson nine for the Oles in the win. Hamline was led by Sam Greeny-Hamlin's 12 kills on 22 attempts.

St. Olaf (26-4, 9-1 MIAC) needs a win on Saturday against Carleton to share the regular season conference title after St. Thomas (24-4, 10-1 MIAC) finished its MIAC schedule on Wednesday with a four-set win at Saint Ben's.
