Smisek's 17 kills leads Oles past UST in straight sets to claim MIAC playoffs title

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Kim Smisek had 17 kills as No. 12 St. Olaf defeated No. 11 St. Thomas in three sets -- 25-22, 25-18, 25-22 -- to claim the MIAC's playoff title on Saturday night at Skoglund Center.

Smisek hit .350 while Ari Carlson added nine kills, hitting .364, as the Oles won their first MIAC playoffs title since 2002. With the victory St. Olaf earns the MIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, which begins next week.

St. Thomas (28-6) was led by Jill Osborne's 12 kills. Osborne and Alesha Nelson, who had eight kills, hit .308 and .462 in the loss.

St. Olaf has now won 12 in a row and 24 of its last 25.

The NCAA tournament pairings will be announced on Monday.
