Oles build lead, hold off Gusties for non-league men's hockey win

ST. PETER, Minn. - Britton Smith had a goal and an assist as St. Olaf built a 4-0 lead and held off host Gustavus Adolphus College 4-3 in a non-conference men's hockey game between MIAC foes on Friday night.
Smith's unassisted power-play goal at 3:59 of the second period gave the Oles (5-5-3) a 3-0 lead. Later in the period he assisted on Charlie Raskob's score at 16:50 to give St. Olaf a 4-0 lead after two periods.
The Oles' Aaron Molstad and Peter Rohn scored goals in the first period.
The game was decided on special teams as St. Olaf converted three of four power play opportunities while killing five of six Gustavus power plays in the victory.
Gustavus, which held a 40-21 advantage in shots, had two assists from Tim LaBombard and an extra-skater goal by Ilya Kravtchouk with 31 seconds left in regulation to make it 4-3.
St. Olaf goaltender Nick Krauss made 37 saves, including 27 in the final two periods to get the win.
