Baseball splits with sixth-ranked Warhawks

LEESBURG, Fla. - The St. Olaf baseball team split its doubleheader with No. 6 UW-Whitewater on Saturday, winning the opener 3-2 before dropping a 7-2 decision in game two.
Game One: St. Olaf 3, No. 6 UW-Whitewater 2 Sam Maus hit a walk off, bases loaded single with no outs in bottom of the seventh inning to give St. Olaf the game one victory.
Erik Nelson and Dan Lee each went 2-for-3 for the Oles, who received 5 1/3 solid innings from starter Brady Sand. Sand allowed four hits and one earned run in the outing.
Sand was backed up by Pete Loizzo, who earned the win by working the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on a hit and a walk.
Game Two: No. 6 UW-Whitewater 7, St. Olaf 2 The Warhawks (3-1) erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to get the 7-2 win and series split.
Whitewater's Rob Coe went 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the win.
Maus was 1-for-3 with a double for the Oles (7-1) in the loss.
St. Olaf has a day off tomorrow before returning to action on Monday with games against Southern Maine and Allegheny.
