Baseball tops Southern Maine, University of Chicago

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The St. Olaf baseball team improved to 9-1 with a pair of wins -- a 2-0 victory of over Southern Maine and a 7-5 win over the University of Chicago -- on Monday at Chain of Lakes Park.
The Oles, 5-1 in Florida thus far, are off on Tuesday before playing the final five games of the trip on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
St. Olaf 2, Southern Maine 0 Joey Voss threw 7 1/3 shutout innings as the first of three Oles that combined for the shutout win in the day's opener. Adam Johnson got an out on the only batter he faced before giving way to Erik Olson, who converted a 1 1/3 inning save. The trio allowed only four Southern Maine hits and two walks.
Jim Blissenbach was 2-for-2 at the plate while Brady Sand singled and scored in the fifth inning on a Southern Maine error.
The Oles' other run came in the sixth when Sean Dube led off with a single and scored on Matt Kieffer's RBI knock later in the inning.
St. Olaf 7, Univ. of Chicago 5 David Salzwedel was 3-for-4 as the Oles used a four-run sixth inning to escape with the 7-5 win over the Maroons.
Blissenbach was 2-for-5 while Dylan Porter and Mark Lee each went 2-for-4 with two runs in the win. Jack Cinoman was 3-for-5 and Marshall Oium 2-for-5 with a homer for Chicago (0-1), which pounded out 16 hits in the loss.
St. Olaf raced to a 6-1 lead before the Maroons scored two in the bottom of the sixth and single runs in the seventh and ninth. Olson converted his fourth save for the Oles despite allowing three hits, a walk and a wild pitch.
Brandon Agneberg got the win for the Oles, scattering 10 hits over his six innings of work. Stu Martin tossed two innings of relief, allowing a run on three hits.
