Softball wins game one 9-1 before dropping finale to Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. - St. Olaf and Concordia College-Moorhead split a MIAC softball doubleheader on Wednesday, as the Oles took the opener 9-1 before the host Cobbers won game two 5-1.
Game One: St. Olaf 9, Concordia 1 Mel Brooks went 3-for-3 and three Oles -- Kjirsten Spper, Julie Fergus and Jess Wilson -- each went 2-for-3 as St. Olaf scored six times in the third inning to beat the Cobbers.
The Oles started the third frame with six straight hits, including four extra-base knocks. Wilson's double to right field scored two runs.
Natalee McNeff scattered six hits and struck out five to get the win for St. Olaf.
Game Two: Concordia 5, St. Olaf 1 (Box) The Cobbers' Kelsey Jones allowed five hits and a run in a complete game victory to give Concordia a 5-1 win and series split. Jones added a 2-for-3 day at the plate and drove in a run, while Kaia Sele hit a two-run homer.
St. Olaf stranded seven baserunners in the loss, including two each in the second and sixth innings. Katie Truax doubled and scored the Oles' only run.
