Gustavus defeats Oles in MIAC women's tennis finale

ST. PETER, Minn.- The St. Olaf women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 defeat to Gustavus to close out their regular season schedule Tuesday afternoon at Brown Outdoor Tennis Complex.
Coming into the match, both teams had already locked in their seeds for the upcoming MIAC playoffs. Gustavus had earned the top seed, while St. Olaf was locked in to the third seed. Looking for their 205th straight regular-season conference victory, Gustavus started the afternoon by sweeping the three doubles matches. The teams of Abby Ho and Christine Muller and Sarah Magnuson and Julia Ellis each lost 8-3, while Caitlin Harper and Claire Carlson were defeated 8-1. Ho and Muller end the year with a record of 10-5 at first doubles. Harper and Carlson finish the year at 9-5 at second, while Magnuson and Ellis finish 7-5 overall (7-4 at third doubles).
Gustavus also swept the six singles matches to seal their their 20th straight MIAC regular-season title. The Gusties won each of the six matches in straight sets. The closest closest match was at third singles, where Caitlin Harper won six games. Ho, Muller, Harper, Ellis, Carlson, and Magnuson completed a successful spring season for the team with records of 8-8, 13-3, 8-7, 12-3, 10-9, and 7-8, respectively.
The Oles end the regular season with a record of 12-4, 8-2 in the MIAC. By earning the #3 seed in the MIAC playoffs, the Oles will face St. Catherine on Friday at 3 in St. Peter. If St. Olaf wins that match, they will play #2 seed Carleton at 11:30 am on Saturday.
