Ole women's soccer wins MIAC opener

NORTHFIELD, Minn.- Goals from Amanda Leone, Deanne Schmidt, and Lindsay Howard helped the St. Olaf women's soccer team win their MIAC opener 3-0 over Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.
The win extends the Oles perfect start to the season, as their record now sits at 5-0-0.
Leone got the scoring started for St. Olaf by notching her third goal of the fall at 17:30. The goal was assisted by Annie Manning.
The Oles extended their lead to 2-0 just 12 minutes later, when Schmidt nodded home a Anna Theis corner for her first goal of the year. Schmidt also led the Oles with four shots in the contest.
Howard's unassisted goal at 71:26 capped the scoring. The goal was her third of the season, tying her with Leone and Dani Larson for the team lead.
Goalkeeper Nora Forbes earned her second straight shutout victory by posting four saves for St. Olaf.
Next up for the Oles is a Saturday afternoon contest at home against Saint Mary's.
