September 27, 2011
SAINT PAUL, Minn.- The St. Olaf men's soccer team got goals from David Rosenthal and Soren Frykholm in a 2-2 tie against Hamline Tuesday afternoon in St. Paul.
The Oles led 2-1 heading into the last ten minutes but senior forward Ibou Wone scored his second goal of the year at the 81:10 mark to earn the Pipers a tie.
Despite being outshot 24-14 for the game, Hamline scored the first goal of the game just before halftime. Kevin Gjersvig scored his first goal of the year on an assist from Michael Murphy.
The Oles knotted the score just 13 seconds later to go into halftime at 1-1. David Rosenthal scored his team-leading seventh goal of the year off an assist from Kenzie Lund.
Early in the second half, St. Olaf took a 2-1 lead when Rosenthal found Soren Frykholm for his first goal as an Ole at the 51:42 mark.
However, Wone's late tying goal denied the Oles all three points despite the Oles advantage in shots. Kenzie Lund lead St. Olaf with eight shots in the game. Murphy, Wone, and Brian Stout had three for the Pipers.
Spencer VonBehren made 12 saves in goal for the Pipers, while Harry Ullmann saved five Hamline shots.
The tie moves St. Olaf to 8-1-1, 2-0-1 in MIAC play. Hamline is now 2-5-2, 0-2-2 in conference play. The Oles return to action with a conference game at St. John's on Saturday afternoon.
