October 15, 2011
NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Olaf held Carleton to 81 offensive yards while Leon Clark rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns as the host Oles defeated the Knights 28-7 in a MIAC football game on Saturday at Manitou Field.
St. Olaf has now won three straight and 14 of the last 16 meetings between the Northfield colleges.
Wes Lynch had 10 tackles and three for a loss --including two sacks -- in the win for St. Olaf which limited Carleton to one third down conversion in 13 tries. Lynch also recovered a fumble for the Ole defense, which held the Knights to 14 yards in the second half.
Clark carried 29 times and had touchdown runs of 11 and 26 yards. His 26-yard scoring run with 7:54 left in regulation all but sealed the win. Carleton had come within two scores, at 21-7 with Jordan Soteros 44-yard interception return for a score late in the third quarter.
Soteros' pick was one of two thrown by St. Olaf quarterback Dan Dobson, who finished 16-for-23 for 150 yards. Dobson threw one touchdown, an eight-yard toss to Stephen Asp in the opening minutes of the second quarter, which gave St. Olaf a 14-0 lead.
Dobson's one-yard sneak in the first quarter gave St. Olaf a 7-0 lead.
St. Olaf (5-1, 3-1 MIAC) plays at Augsburg next Saturday at 1 p.m.
