Howard leads Oles to 4-1 victory over UW-Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis.- Lindsay Howard was involved in three of four goals, notching a goal and two assists, as the St. Olaf women's soccer team defeated UW-Stevens Point 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.
All five of the goals were scored in the first half. Deanne Schmidt opened the scoring at the 24:43 mark of the first half on a goal, assisted by Amanda Leone.
It didn't take long for the Pointers to respond, as they scored just 25 seconds later to tie the score at 1-1. Sammy Greer scored eighth goal of the year. The goal was assisted by Carly Falk.
Ten minutes later, first-year Megan Fellows scored her first career goal, the eventual game-winner. Fellows' goal was assisted by Howard. The Oles made it 3-1 just a minute later. Sophomore Rachael Stets also scored her first goal as an Ole, assisted again by Howard.
Howard capped the scoring with her 10th goal of the year at 43:37 to further increase St. Olaf's lead. Fellows returned Howard's earlier favor with an assist on the Oles' final goal.
UW-Stevens Point outshot St. Olaf 13-8 but the Oles converted half of their shots into goals. Greer and Falk combined for seven of the Pointers shots. Howard led the Oles with 3 shots, while Stets had two.
Nora Forbes made six saves in goal for St. Olaf as she picked up her 10th win of the fall. Pointers goalie Brittany Marx made two saves but picked up the loss.
With the win, St. Olaf improves to 10-3-3, 5-2-2 MIAC. They are currently fourth in the conference standings on 17 points, five behind leaders Saint Benedict. UW-Stevens Point falls to 9-7, 3-4 WIAC. The Oles return to MIAC play on Wednesday when they travel to St. Paul to face Bethel. The Royals are 8-6-2, 3-5-1 in MIAC play.
