Volleyball takes NWC in five

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Olaf volleyball team outlasted Northwestern College in five sets -- 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 15-25 and 15-12 -- on Tuesday night in a non-conference contest and rematch from the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
St. Olaf had four players in double digits for kills, led by Ari Carlson's 14 on 29 attempts. Katie Wolfram added 13, Kelly Heissel 11 and Melissa Burch 10.
Northwestern (24-4) saw its 18-match win streak come to an end with the loss. The Eagles were paced by Courtney Jonas' 16 kills and 15 each from Chelsea Koth and Greta King.
St. Olaf (11-14) snapped a six-match losing streak with the win. The Oles broke a 5-5 tie in the decisive fifth with seven of the set's next nine points.
The victory was the teams first in the team's five five-set matches (1-4).
St. Olaf returns to MIAC play tomorrow with a road game at Macalester College at 7 p.m.
