Men's cross country qualifies for NCAA Division III Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa - The St. Olaf men's cross country team placed second in the 26-team NCAA Division III Central Regional on Saturday, automatically qualifying for the NCAA Div. III National Championships.

The Oles' Grant Wintheiser finished fifth in 25:25, just 29 seconds behind meet winner Ben Sathre of the University of St. Thomas. Brian Saksa (11th, 25:42), Tim Lillehaugen (20th, 25:55), and Pat Boland (24th, 26:07) earned All-Region recognition with top 35 performances. Also racing for the Oles was Josh Wold (47th, 26:34), Anders Nienstaedt (54th, 26:38) and John Christian (61st, 26:53).

The University of Nebraska Wesleyan won with 93 points. St. Olaf finished 14 points behind with 107. Hamline University, this year's MIAC Champions, finished third with 133 and Loras College was fourth with 141.

The NCAA Division III Championships are being held on Saturday in Oshkosh, Wis.
