INDIANAPOLIS - The St. Olaf women's cross country team earned an at-large bid to next week's NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, the association announced on Sunday.

The Oles, the MIAC's regular-season runners-up, were third at Saturday's Central Regional Championships in Waverly, Iowa.

The NCAA appearance is the 19th in school history and ranks seventh in all-time team appearances. This is the third consecutive year St. Olaf has qualified.

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals must qualify in their respective NCAA regions. Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 16 teams. Sixteen additional teams were selected at-large.

Fifty-six individuals, the first seven athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship.

UW-Oshkosh will host the championships on Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the men's race at noon.
