Women's basketball beats Saint Ben's

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Elise Raney had 21 points and Kirstee Rotty 15 points and 10 rebounds as St. Olaf defeated the College of Saint Benedict 82-75 at Skoglund Center on Saturday afternoon.

Rotty was 0-for-8 from the field, but connected on 15-of-16 from the free throw line. St. Olaf made a season-best 31 from the charity stripe in 40 attempts. Raney was 7-for-10.

Saint Benedict (7-6, 4-6 MIAC) was led by Whitney Canton's 19 points. Canton was 8-of-9 from the line as the Blazers missed only three from the line (22-for-25).

First year Sheridan Blanford added 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Oles (10-3, 7-3 MIAC). Blanford had back-to-back buckets in the final three minutes to inflate the St. Olaf lead from seven to 11.

The Oles trailed 37-35 at the break before going on a 17-5 rally to open the second stanza. St. Olaf led by as many as 11, on two occasions, and held off a late CSB run by making six of their final eight free throw attempts.

St. Olaf hosts St. Catherine University on Monday while Saint Benedict plays at Macalester.
