Men's hockey, Royals play to 1-1 draw

BLAINE, Minn. - St. Olaf and Bethel University played to a 1-1 MIAC men's hockey tie on Friday night in the first of a two-game, home-and-home league series.

The Oles' Blake Matejcek scored the game's first goal, a short-handed tally on a feed from Jeff Harris at 5:46 of the second period.

The game stayed in St. Olaf favor until Josh Shingler tied the game for Bethel on an assist from EJ Gann.

St. Olaf held a 43-26 edge in shots. Dan Harper made 42 saves for the Royals while Ben Leis 25 for the Oles. St. Olaf goaltending has allowed two goals or less in the team's last eight games.

The Oles' fifth tie matches the second-most in school history and is the most since 2005-06.
