Oles erase deficit, but Johnnies rally for men's hockey win

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Olaf erased a 3-0 deficit with three scores in a nine-minute stretch, but Saint John's responded and defeated the host Oles 6-3 on Friday night in a MIAC men's hockey game at Northfield Ice Arena.

SJU (10-10-2, 8-5-0 MIAC) got a goal from Jascha Pettit at 7:31 of the third period to break the 3-3 tie, and all but sealed the victory with Josh Gaughan's goal with 1:45 left in regulation. The Johnnies added an empty net tally with nine seconds left.

St. Olaf (10-7-5, 6-5-2), trailing 3-0 with five minutes left in the third, rallied behind goals from Brian Hickey, Ross Trousdale and Jeff Harris. Harris' goal title the game at the 3:29 mark of the third.

Wally Cossette and Tobias Linbro each had a goal and an assist for the Johnnies in the win.

The teams meet in the series finale tomorrow at 7 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minn.
