Ole men top Auggies behind Fong's 21

MINNEAPOLIS - Bobby Fong had 21 points and Stu Neville 12 and 13 rebounds as St. Olaf defeated host Augsburg College 66-54 in a MIAC men's basketball game on Monday night at Si Mellby Hall.

Connor Gunderson and Sterling Nielsen added 11 points each for the Oles (15-9, 14-5 MIAC), who will finish now lower than third in the league. St. Olaf, which has a bye on Wednesday before Saturday's finale with Carleton trails first place Gustavus (15-3 MIAC) by 1 1/2 games and St. Thomas (14-4) by a half game.

Andy Grzesiak-Grimm ahd 13 points and 14 rebounds and Tyler Schmidt 19 points to lead Augsburg (15-9, 12-7 MIAC) in the loss.

St. Olaf used a 12-3 run to open the second half to turn a one-point deficit to a 41-34 advantage. The lead grew to as many as 13, and Augsburg wasn't closer than eight in the final 10 minutes.

The win is the Oles' eighth in the last nine games and marks the most wins in league play since the 1992-93 season.

St. Olaf closes the regular season on Saturday with a home contest against Carleton College.
