Gratz wins 200 IM as Oles tied for lead after first day of MIAC's

MINNEAPOLIS - St. Olaf first year Michael Gratz won the 200 IM in a NCAA A cut time of 1:50.61 as the Oles are tied for the lead after the first of three days at the MIAC Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.
Gratz held off teammate Colby Kubat, who finished second with a B cut time of 1:51.45, which was almost a second ahead of the selection time from 2011. The Oles' Phillip Maple was also a finalist in the event, finishing sixth (1:57.44).
St. Olaf sophomore Spencer Scarth was second in the 500 Free as one of four Oles in the final. Chase Liaboe was fourth, Evan Griffith fifth and Stefan Lemke seventh.
The team finished the night with a victory in the 400 Medley Relay -- with Griffith, Kubat, Liaboe and Gratz -- in a NCAA B cut time of 3:23.30.
The Oles' Ian Straehley was second in the 1-meter diving with a 423.70 in the 11-dive finals.
