Ole men score twice in third to upset No. 6 Tommies, advance to MIAC final

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - Jeff Harris' goal at the 7:16 mark of the third period helped St. Olaf to a 4-3 win over No. 6 and top-seeded St. Thomas in the MIAC men's hockey playoff semifinals to advance to the tournament final next weekend.
Harris scored on assists from Brian Hickey and Kevin Harris to break a 3-3 tie. St. Olaf (13-8-6) erased one-goal deficits twice, the latter coming when the Oles' Britton Smith tied the game at 3-3 at the 0:29 mark of the third. Smith also scored in the second period - at 13:44 -- on assists from Hickey and John Avino to give the Oles a 2-1 lead.
Rob Vannelli scored twice for UST (18-5-2) in the loss. Vanelli's power play goal at 16:36 of the second tied the game at 2-2. He then added a score with 32 seconds left in the period to make it 3-2.
Steve Papciak made 32 saves to get the win in net for the Oles, who will play Gustavus Adolphus College on the road next Saturday.
St. Olaf is making its second appearance in the MIAC finals (2006 - W 5-1 vs. UST).
