Baseball wins opener, falls in second game in MIAC doubleheader with Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The St. Olaf baseball team held off Concordia for a 1-0 win in game one before falling to the host Cobbers, 11-1, in the second game of a MIAC doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.
Game One: St. Olaf 1, Concordia 0
St. Olaf starter Brady Sand went the distance, scattering eight hits while striking out 10 as the Oles held off the Cobbers for the shutout victory. Sand survived a leadoff double and bases loaded jam in the seventh inning to secure his third win of 2012.
The Cobbers, who had two-hit games from Braden Rahman and Brad Olson, stranded 13 baserunners in the loss.
St. Olaf managed just two hits in the win. Erik Nelson drove in the game's only run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Game Two: Concordia 11, St. Olaf 1
Concordia scored eight first inning runs on eight hits on the way to the lopsided win in the nightcap.
Every Concordia batter had at least one hit in the win and seven Cobbers had two. Chris Gilson led the way, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Sam Maus was 2-for-4 with a homer while Dan Lee (2-for-4) and Adam Johnson (2-for-2) had two hits as well in the loss for St. Olaf.
