Softball swept by St. Thomas

NORTHFIELD, Minn.- The University of St. Thomas handed the St. Olaf softball team a pair of losses by scoring eight runs in each game on Thursday afternoon at Mabel Shirley Field.

Second baseman Kimmy Hassel drove in three runs and Kendra Bowe pitched five no-hit innings in relief, as St. Thomas took the opening game 8-2.
St. Olaf scored the game's opening run in the first inning when Jess Wilson singled in Maggie Scholer, but St. Thomas responded with single runs in the second, third, fourth, and sixth innings.
The Tommies then broke the game open in the seventh, plating four runs on three hits and two St. Olaf errors. Wilson had two hits of the five Ole hits and drove in both St. Olaf runs.
The Tommies got 11 hits off Amy Prok in her 6 1/3 innings of work. Meanwhile, Bowe held the Oles quiet after the third inning, notching nine strikeouts.

Bowe picked up her second win of the day and 12th of the year in a 8-0 Tommie win in the second game.
Bowe pitched five innings, giving up just three hits and one walk, while recording six strikeouts. Annie Boyer and Lauren Thornhill followed Bowe with two combined one-hit innings.
St. Thomas scored twice in the first inning and added three in the second. The Tommies scored runs on an error and a groundout by Maggie Briesmeister in the first. Emily Gregory added a two-run single in the second. Gregory finished with two hits and three RBIs.
Jessica Green started on the mound for the Oles and gave up seven runs (four earned) in four innings of work. Danielle Collins worked the final three innings, giving up one run.
St. Olaf only managed four hits in the game. Scholer, Julie Fergus, Natalie Mironov, and Christiana Miller had a hit each.
