Oles, Bethel split MIAC baseball doubleheader

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf baseball team used a six-run inning to win the opener 8-7 before dropping a 5-3 decision to Bethel in game two of a MIAC doubleheader on Saturday at Mark Almli Field.
Game One: St. Olaf 8, Bethel 7
St. Olaf had four hits and took advantage of two BU errors in the fourth inning to score six runs on the way to the game one victory. Nick Denn picked up a key two-out, two-run single in the inning. Denn went 2-for-3, while Erik Nelson was 3-for-3 and Dan Lee 2-for-3with a run.
The Oles led 8-3 before the Royals mounted a comeback with three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh before Brady Sand induced a ground ball to end the game. St. Olaf starter Alex Lampert got the win, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. Lampert gave way to Sand, who worked the final inning and two-thirds to get the save.
Mike Sedjo was 3-for-4 for the Royals.
Game Two: Bethel 5, St. Olaf 3
Bethel scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-3 and held off the Oles 5-3 in the finale.
Matt Rowley went 3-for-4 and Jay Slick 2-for-4 for the Royals, who moved to 5-1 in MIAC play. Slick had a solo homer in the seventh to give BU a two-run cushion.
Nick Kulla went 2-for-3 with a run-scoring double and Chris Paradise 2-for-4 in the loss for the Oles. With a runner on in the bottom of the seventh, Paradise lined out to deep centerfield to end the game.
