Baseball takes two from Gustavus

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Sam Maus went 4-for-7 and Adam Johnson 3-for-6 with a homer and six RBIs as St. Olaf swept Gustavus Adolphus College 7-0 and 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Mark Almli Field.
Game One: St. Olaf 7, Gustavus 0 St. Olaf starter Alex Lampert went six shutout innings, allowing three hits while walking four in his fourth (4-6) win of 2012.
Maus went 3-for-4 with a double and Johnson 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. The Oles scored twice in the second and four times in the fourth, helped by Johnson's bases-clearing double with one out.
Chris Paradise added a 3-for-4 game one while Nick Kulla was 2-for-2 with an RBI-single in the fourth and walk. The Oles' 13 hits were the third-most this season. The team had 16 twice.
Game Two: St. Olaf 5, Gustavus 4 Kyle Watson tossed five solid innings of relief, allowing an unearned run while striking out five and walking none as St. Olaf completed the sweep with a 5-4 win.
Johnson hit a two-out, three-run homer in the first inning to give St. Olaf a 4-2 lead. David Salzwedel and Dan Lee each went 2-for-2 for the Oles in the win, their fifth in the last eight games.
Gustavus' Timmy Miller went 3-for-3 with a run and two RBIs in the loss. Miller had a two-run single in the first inning and scored in the seventh after his leadoff, line drive single was misplayed, leaving him at third. He scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kellan Euerle to make it 5-4.
St. Olaf finishes the 2012 season at Hamline University on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
