ST. PETER, Minn.- The St. Olaf women's tennis team saw their season come to an end in the MIAC Playoff semifinals, as host Gustavus defeated the Oles 5-0 on Saturday morning at Swanson Indoor Tennis Center.

Gustavus swept the three doubles matches and won the first two singles matches to be completed to seal the win. Since the match was played to decision, Kristi Kroker, Erin Hynes, and Lizzie Carlson did not get an opportunity to start their singles matches.

Back on April 26, the Oles and Gusties played three tight doubles matches. Megan Gaard and Laurel Krebsbach defeated Caitlin Harper and Christine Muller 8-5, while Megan Born and Alex Erickson topped Kroker and Julia Ellis by the same margin. Mary Roop and Annie Mahoney edged Caitlin Owlsey and Lizzy Eggert 8-6 during the regular season. However, St. Olaf was unable to repeat their strong performance, as Gustavus quickly jumped out to 3-0 leads in all three matches. All three matches featured rematches of the regular season affair but no Ole pairing managed to win more than three games.

Looking to get back into the match in singles, St. Olaf got solid performances from Ellis and Muller but it was not enough. Muller was defeated 6-1, 6-2 by Gaard, while Krebsbach beat Ellis by the same scoreline. Both matches featured long rallies but Gaard and Krebsbach possessed too much firepower in the end. The bright spot for the Oles was at first singles where Harper jumped out to a 5-2 lead on Erickson. However, Erickson fought back to level the score at 5-5 when the match was stopped since the Gusties had the five necessary points.

The win sends Gustavus (17-8, 9-1 MIAC) to the final where they face Carleton (17-5, 10-0 MIAC), as the top two seeds battle for the third time this year. Carleton has won each of the first two meetings. Carleton swept aside St. Thomas 5-0 in the other semifinal. St. Olaf finishes the season with a 11-4 record, including a 7-3 MIAC record. Three of the four Ole losses came to either Gustavus or Carleton, with a 5-4 loss to Saint Mary's being the lone other defeat. The match marked the final match in an Ole uniform for Harper and Muller. Claire Carlson, who tore her ACL in practice early in the season, will also graduate.

Final season records for the Oles in singles are: Caitlin Harper (12-2, 8-2 MIAC), Christine Muller (9-5, 6-3 MIAC), Julia Ellis (10-5, 8-2 MIAC), Kristi Kroker (10-4, 7-3 MIAC), Erin Hynes (8-4, 4-4 MIAC), Lizzie Carlson (8-4, 6-4 MIAC).

Final season records for the Oles in doubles are: Harper/Muller (9-6, 7-3 MIAC), Ellis and Kroker (5-6, 3-4 MIAC), Lizzy Eggert/Andrea Jumes (5-3, 3-3 MIAC), Eggert/Owsley (2-2, 1-1 MIAC).
