Volleyball falls twice, Rotty named to all-tournament team

TACOMA, Wash. - The St. Olaf volleyball team was defeated twice on Saturday at the University of Puget Sound, dropping three-set matches to UC-Santa Cruz and Southwestern University. The Oles' Kirstee Rotty was named to the all-tournament team.
Rotty, who led St. Olaf with 6.42 digs/set, had 18 and 20 digs in Saturday's losses.
UC-Santa Cruz def. St. Olaf 25-20, 25-17, 25-18 Ari Carlson had seven kills to lead the Oles, but Kim Rabii had 13 and Katherine Grow 11 to lead Southwestern to win.
St. Olaf rallied from a 20-9 deficit in the first set to cut the advantage to 23-20, but the Banana Slugs had consecutive kills from Elisabeth Trambley and Helen Milne to win the set.
UC-Santa Cruz used a 9-0 run in the second to break a 10-10 tie, and a 12-2 rally to start the third set.
Southwestern def. St. Olaf 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 Allison Stubbs had 13 kills to lead the Pirates, as Southwestern had a key four-point run in the first set to break a 16-16 tie on the way to a 25-21 set victory.
Melissa Burch had 12 kills to pace St. Olaf, while first year setter Kersten Bork had her tournament-best 31 set assists in the loss. The Oles had a 12-11 lead in the second set but Southwestern used a 10-4 run to regain the lead.
St. Olaf plays four games at UW-La Crosse next weekend.
