Heide is MIAC's golfer of the week
September 6, 2012
ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Olaf men's golfer Ryan Heide started the 2012-13 season off in impressive fashion, shooting even par for his first 18-hole round of the new campaign. That helped the junior score a tie for second place while also leading his team to a second-place finish against a talented field at the Culver's Edgewood Invitational in Janesville, Wis. For his performance, Heide has been named the first MIAC Men's Golf Athlete-of-the-Week for the 2012-13 season.
Heide fired an even-par 71 and found himself tied for the lead after one round. He followed with a 4-over-par 75 on day two for a two-day total of 146 and a second-place finish. Heide, who finished plus-four for the tournament, was just two shots behind the leader - Southwest Tech's Aaron Rondon - at 144 strokes. In the process, St. Olaf finished with a total of 599 (291-308) to match St. Thomas for second place as the top MIAC finishers, as both were three shots behind first-place Viterbo (596). Heide was the league's top individual in the field.
Heide and the Oles hope to continue their strong start this weekend a little closer to home, as they'll see a number of MIAC rivals in the field at the Augsburg Invitational, which will be held Sept. 8-9 at Majestic Oaks in Blaine, Minn. The Oles have three 36-hole invites on their fall schedule to tune up for the 2012 MIAC Men's Golf Championships, which will be held Oct. 6-8 at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn.
