Oles drop two to close Viterbo volleyball tourney

La CROSSE, Wis. - St. Olaf junior outside hitter Kelly Heissel had 14 and seven kills, but the Ole volleyball team dropped its final two matches at the Viterbo University Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Morningside College def. St. Olaf 21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23
The Oles scored the final five points of the first to win the opener 25-21, but Morningside won the final three sets to win the match.

Ari Carlson had 12 kills and Melissa Burch 11 in the loss for St. Olaf. Kersten Bork had 45 set assists and a pair of aces.

Maggie Vondrak had 19 kills, hitting .429 for Morningside.

Viterbo def. St. Olaf 25-17, 25-16, 25-18
Host Viterbo never trailed in the opening set and overcame St. Olaf rallies in the final two to complete the three-set sweep.

Alicia Olson's 13 kills on 32 attempts (.281) led Viterbo, while Heissel's seven kills paced the Oles. Kirstee Rotty had 22 digs for St. Olaf (2-6, 0-0 MIAC), which opens MIAC play at Bethel on Wednesday.
