Oles fall 28-14 to Cobbers in home opener

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf football team opened its home schedule with a loss on Saturday, falling 28-14 to Concordia in a game at Manitou Field.
Brett Baune had 144 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries to lead the Cobbers (3-0, 1-0 MIAC), who led 28-0 early in the fourth.
Reggie Woods' interception and 55-yard return for a touchdown got the Oles (2-1, 0-1 MIAC) within two scores with 5:09 left in the game, but Baune and the Cobbers ran out the clock on the ensuing possession.
The Oles' first score came when Dan Dobson found Stephen Asp on a 45-yard touchdown strike down the right sideline with 7:36 left in the fourth. Asp ended the day with six catches for 95 yards, while Dobson finished 14-of-24 passing for 156 yards.
The Cobbers opened the scoring with a Baune run from four yards out with 5:35 remaining in the first quarter. The teams then traded possessions until a 44-yard pass from Griffin Neal to Mark Whiting set up a Concordia touchdown run by Matt Peterson that put Concordia up 14-0 with five seconds before halftime.
The Cobbers' other scores came in the second half on an 18-yard run by Peterson and a 16-yard pass from Neal to Chris Gilson.
The Oles are at home again next week against Gustavus at 1 p.m.
