NORTHFIELD, Minn.- First year Madison Van Wylen's goal early in the second half earned the St. Olaf women's soccer team a 1-1 draw with No. 22 Wartburg on Tuesday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.

Trailing 1-0, Van Wylen took a pass from Emily Sierakowski, turned, and hit a left-footed shot that Wartburg went Wartburg keeper Monica Noti's hand, off the under side of the crossbar and in. The goal was Van Wylen's team-leading third of the season. Sierakowski earned her third assist.

Earlier, Lauren Bauer had given the Knights a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. Following a period of sustained pressure by Wartburg that saw Nora Forbes make a couple saves, Bauer's shot from inside the box beat Forbes for her second goal of the year. Cathy Reiter assisted Bauer's tally with her third helper of the season.

In a back-and-forth contest, Wartburg outshot St. Olaf 15-9. The visitors also held a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal but Nora Forbes made nine saves for the Oles. Noti added three saves for the Knights.

Van Wylen led St. Olaf with four shots, while Amanda Leone pitched in with three. Kaylee Benning, Wartburg's leading scorer with six goals in seven games entering Tuesday, had four shots on goal for the Knights. Anna Aquino and Reiter had three shots each.

The draw leaves St. Olaf with a 4-2-1 record, while Wartburg sits at 5-1-2. The Oles are now unbeaten in their last three games.

St. Olaf now embarks on a four-game road trip beginning with a trip to St. Catherine on Saturday. The Oles face the Wildcats at 1 p.m. St. Olaf beat St. Catherine 4-0 at home last fall.
